Rice (Oryza sativa ‘Japonica Group’) is a monocotyledonous grass native to Japan and Eastern Asia. Its seeds are a staple food for billions of people, making rice one of the most important food crops in the world. It is also a popular model organism for the growth of cereal crops. The rice genome is diploid with a size of 420 Mb.
